Abstract

This paper takes a typical cold wave event in 2024 as an example to meet the meteorological forecasting needs of transmission lines during the cold wave and ice cover period in complex terrain. Based on the WRF v4.5 model, a four layer nested simulation system is constructed, and high-precision terrain data from SRTM is combined in the innermost layer using large eddy simulation (WRF-LES) to conduct high-precision meteorological field forecasting research on the Meihua Mountain area in Guizhou. By comparing with measured data, analyze the differences in simulation performance between traditional WRF and WRF-LES in key meteorological elements such as wind speed, temperature, and humidity. The results indicate that WRF-LES has higher accuracy in simulating near ground wind speed and temperature, both in terms of trend and numerical magnitude. Compared with traditional WRF simulations, it has significant improvements, especially in capturing wind speed, with RMSE and MAE reduced by about 2.4 and 2.7.
