Design of a six-band, 2.4-octave (80–420 GHz) hierarchically summed phased-array slot-dipole antenna array for NEW-MUSIC
Abstract
The Next-generation Extended Wavelength Multi-band Sub/millimeter Inductance Camera (NEW-MUSIC) is the first six-band trans-millimeter wave polarimeter mounted on the Leighton Chajnantor Telescope (LCT). To realize this innovative instrument, we propose a broadband, hierarchical phased-array antenna integrated with band-defining filters, covering a wide spectral range of 80~420 GHz (2.4 octaves)[1]. This design enables key scientific investigations, including studies of trans-millimeter emission from time-domain sources, hot plasmas in galaxy clusters and galaxies via the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effects, and dusty sources spanning from galactic star-forming regions to high-redshift star-forming galaxies. The integrated antenna-filter system provides a critical technical foundation for NEW-MUSIC’s high-performance detection capabilities. [1] Huang X et al.
