Abstract

To establish a low-radiation, convenient, and personalized method for assessing segment inertia parameters. Images of 80 male adults were obtained via Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) scanning. The images were segmented into individual segments, with pixel coordinates and gray values output for each segment. Based on the Hanavan model, each segment was simplified, and the two-dimensional images were reconstructed into three-dimensional rigid body models. The mass and moment of inertia of each segment were calculated. 1) Segment mass and moment of inertia data were obtained for 80 male adults. 2) Segment inertia parameters showed no significant difference from China national standard regression equation predictions for upper arm and forearm mass. Similarly, no significant differences were found for lower leg I(x), I(y) head I(y), lower trunk I(y), forearm I(y), upper trunk I(z), and upper arm I(z). For other segments, Relative Mass prediction errors ranged from -2.42% to 2.23%, while moment of inertia differences remained within comparable magnitudes. Establishing a mathematical model based on DXA enables the determination of segmental mass and moment of inertia in the human body, providing a novel approach for segmental inertia parameter estimation.
