The status of skeletal muscle autophagy research: a quantitative analysis of literature based on the Web of Science database
Abstract
Objective: This study aims to clarify the research landscape and developmental trends of skeletal muscle autophagy through quantitative analysis of literature within the Web of Science (WOS) database, thereby providing researchers with a reference framework. Methods: Using bibliometric analysis. Technical details: Step 1: Retrieve literature from the WOS Core Collection (1990–present) (for this paper: 2000–present). Step 2: Export the results as a text file (txt) containing Full Record and Cited References. Step 3: Upload the exported text file from step two to the bibliometric online analysis platform for processing as required. Step 4: Extract the analysis results as needed. Results: The USA continues to lead the field of skeletal muscle autophagy research, significantly outpacing other nations in terms of publication output, top-tier research institutions, and international collaboration, the USA and China were the primary contributing countries/regions, with Sandri Marco emerging as the most prolific author. The FASEB Journal published the highest number of papers, while the most cited paper garnered over 1,500 citations. Conclusion: The research on skeletal muscle autophagy is flourishing, with interdisciplinary collaborative studies becoming increasingly common. Cooperation between countries and regions will grow more frequent and in-depth. Furthermore, with advances in computational and AI technologies, data mining will become increasingly convenient and intelligent. Based on existing research data, novel computational tools may be developed to aid in identifying therapeutic targets and drug development for related diseases.
