Technical and tactical analysis of the 2025 world table tennis championships men’s singles final between Wang Chuqin and Hugo Calderano based on computer vision
Abstract
This study takes the 2025 World Table Tennis Championships men’s singles final between Wang Chuqin and Hugo Calderano as the research object. From the perspective of preparing for the Los Angeles Olympic cycle, it conducts a systematic analysis of the offensive performance characteristics of the two athletes. The study adopts literature review, video observation, and a three-phase index evaluation method, while introducing computer algorithm technology to perform frame-by-frame recognition and technical–tactical action labeling of match videos. A data collection and analysis model optimized by algorithms was constructed to quantitatively analyze and compare the structure and scoring efficiency of technical and tactical applications during the match. By integrating manual interpretation with algorithmic automatic extraction, the study improves the precision and usability of technical–tactical data. The purpose of the research is to provide coaches and athletes with more detailed technical and tactical performance detection information, reveal the offensive characteristics of world-class male table tennis players, and offer scientific data support and technical guidance for the Chinese men’s table tennis team in preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
