Influence of slope configurations on natural induced airflow at the entrance of asymmetric herringbone tunnels
Abstract
This study employs numerical simulation to investigate the velocity of naturally induced airflow in a tunnel with a herringbone slope configuration, under varying slope combinations and heat release rates(HRR). Results shows that the induced airflow velocity increases with the heat release rate. Furthermore, for a given HRR, the induced airflow velocity gradually would rise as the slope difference across the slope change point increases. The findings provide critical insights for optimizing the design of ventilation and smoke exhaust systems in herringbone-slope tunnels and for improving smoke management strategies in tunnel fires.
