Abstract

Neurodiversity within sport psychology remains an underexplored yet critical area for inclusive practice. In this conversational interview, Dr. Andrew Friesen interviews Nicole Zimmerman—a former collegiate distance runner, current coach, sport and exercise psychology master’s graduate, and aspiring Certified Mental Performance Consultant—about her lived experiences navigating dyslexia as an athlete, coach, and practitioner. Through a candid and reflective dialogue, Zimmerman offers insight into how her neurodivergence has shaped her athletic identity, influenced her coaching philosophy, and informed her consulting practices with neurodivergent athletes. This interview highlights the intersection of personal experience and professional development, offering valuable considerations for sport psychology practitioners seeking to create more supportive environments for neurodivergent clients.
