Sensory Properties of CVD Graphene–Soot Composites
Abstract
Abstract Room temperature NO2 sensors based on combination of conductive graphene substrate with arc discharge soot containing metal (Mn, Al, and Sn) nanoparticles are presented. The sensors were created by wet transfer of CVD synthesized graphene onto a silicon substrate, followed by magnetron sputtering of the contacts and aerosol deposition of a soot suspension onto the graphene surface. Composite sensors are more sensitive than bare poly-crystalline graphene and demonstrates better recovery than soot-based sensors without graphene layer. The highest sensitivity to the NO2 was found for Sn containing arc discharge soot. The mechanisms of interaction between arc discharge soot and additive nanoparticles with a polycrystalline graphene coating are discussed. The proposed approach can be used to design highly sensitive selective graphene-based sensors.
