Third of NHS hospitals signed up to Palantir software seem to not be using its apps
Abstract
Third of NHS hospitals signed up to Palantir software seem to not be using its apps Rhiannon Mihranian OsborneA third of trusts with access to Palantir's federated data platform (FDP) seem not to have logged on to the apps for the past year, it has now emerged.Data obtained under freedom of information (FOI) 1 laws contrast with rollout claims that NHS England, Palantir, and ministers have repeatedly used to justify the controversial software.Officially, 139 NHS trusts are "live" with the FDP. 2 The software offered to trusts includes a suite of apps built on Palantir software aiming to help with issues like cutting waiting lists and speeding up cancer diagnoses. The number of trusts "live" with the FDP has been repeatedly cited by officials as an indicator of its success.Rob Thompson, for example, chief digital, data, and technology officer across the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England, told the Commons' Health and Social Care Committee last month that this metric indicated the FDP's popularity among trusts."I look at the number of 139 acute trusts having signed up to use it as an indicator of whether they want or need it, and that for me is the benchmark," he said.3 But new data indicate that a major portion of trusts are not embracing the rollout.
