Abstract

President Donald Trump has withdrawn the US from 66 international organisations and United Nations entities, including the UN climate convention. A statement issued by the White House on 7 January 2026 said Trump had signed a presidential memorandum ordering agencies to cease participation in and funding for the listed bodies, after a review launched under an executive order in February 2025. It said the US administration had made the decision after the review had concluded that the organisations “no longer serve American interests.” “These withdrawals will end American taxpayer funding and involvement in entities that advance globalist agendas over US priorities, or that address important issues inefficiently or ineffectively such that US taxpayer dollars are best allocated in other ways to support the relevant missions,” the statement read.1 The White House published a full list of the 66 organisations affected, 31 of which it labels as “UN entities” (box 1).2 Box 1 ### Organisations the US is withdrawing from #### 31 UN and UN affiliated organisationsRETURN TO TEXT
