Abstract

In the coming chapters we will look at different ways of parallelizing a common algorithm: the power method. This linear algebra algorithm computes the largest eigenvalue of a matrix and its corresponding eigenvector. While this is valuable in itself—it is, for instance, the basis of Google’s PageRank—it is also the basis for more general mathematical methods for linear systems of equations and eigenvalue calculations.
