Abstract

Abstract. The strong forward invariance property of a set is studied in the setting of differential inclusions. The main results are necessary / converse Lyapunov-like characterizations of this property in terms of Lyapunov-like functions. These functions are smooth and not increasing too fast outside of the invariant set and in some cases smooth everywhere and decreasing. Applications to safety and barrier functions, robust invariance, and invariance of interconnections are highlighted.
