Universal Algebraic Stability for Energy-Damped Plates
Abstract
Abstract. We investigate a nonlinear plate model with a nonlocal energy damping coefficient, motivated by experimental observations in aeroelastic structures, such as those studied at NASA’s Langley Research Center. Using a refined adaptation of the energy method, we establish universal bounds, universal stability control, and optimal uniform algebraic decay rates for the corresponding energy functional. Unlike previous works, our results demonstrate that the long-time behavior of the energy is universally controlled independently of the initial data; that is, even under large initial vibrations, the system is universally stable over time. This gives new insights into the stability of flight structures under nonlocal damping effects.
