OPTICAL, SURFACE ANALYSIS AND SHG STUDIES ON PURE AND Nd: L-THREONINE CRYSTALS
Abstract
Pure and neodymium (Nd)-doped L-threonine single crystals were successfully grown using the slow evaporation method. The optimal growth conditions were determined by investigating the metastable zone width. Structural characteristics were analyzed through powder X-ray diffraction, confirming the crystalline nature of both pure and doped crystals. Atomic Force Microscopy was employed for surface analysis, providing insights into morphology. Optical studies, using the Tauc plot, were conducted to predict the energy band gap. The grown crystals exhibited a high laser damage threshold, reflecting their suitability for laser-based applications. Second Harmonic Generation studies revealed improved efficiency for the Nd: L-threonine single crystals, highlighting their potential for nonlinear optical applications.
