Integrating Real-World Cybersecurity Case Studies into Undergraduate CS Education
Abstract
This demo introduces the Case Analysis for Security Education (CASE) framework (https://cyber-cases.info/), an NSF funded initiative designed to enhance undergraduate cybersecurity education through realistic, scenario-based learning. CASE leverages real-world cybersecurity breaches and vulnerabilities to create structured case modules paired with discussion questions and hands-on lab exercises. These modules enable students to investigate authentic cyber incidents, analyze the technical and organizational factors that contributed to the compromise, and replicate attack and defense strategies within controlled virtual environments. Through this approach, students develop both adversarial thinking and systems thinking skills, strengthening their ability to understand complex threat landscapes and design effective security solutions.
