When a Man-in-the-Middle tries crashing the live stream party, the C2PA bouncer steps in
Abstract
We present a proof of concept (PoC) demonstrating the C2PA standardization activity for carrying C2PA information in live segmented media. Our implementation reduces bandwidth overhead to 0.56% using C2PA Session Keys, compared with approximately 5% overhead reported for per-segment manifest approaches in prior work for representations below 1.5Mbps. We also present a Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) framework to evaluate use cases where content has been leaked and retransmitted into different live streams. The PoC demonstrates delivery of DASH streamed content with C2PA information in DASH event messages and C2PA Session Keys, enabling real-time content authentication with 100-ms average validation latency. The C2PA standardization is ongoing, and we solicit feedback from academic and industry practitioners on this live streaming authentication approach.
