Abstract

The American Joint Committee on Cancer/ Union for International Cancer Control version 9 TNM staging system for human papillomavirus (HPV)–associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma provides an updated framework for radiology reporting, incorporating cautious assessment of unequivocal imaging-detected extranodal extension and acknowledging the emerging, complementary role of circulating tumor tissue–modified viral HPV DNA in surveillance.
