Abstract

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy under blocking conditions provides insights into electrode properties, revealing tortuosity, double-layer capacitance, and inhomogeneities. Here, we systematically investigate how key manufacturing parameters influence these properties. First, by varying electrode composition, we establish a correlation between carbon black content and double-layer capacitance. Additionally, we extract parameters essential for microstructurally resolved simulations. Second, we examine how deliberate inhomogeneities in the carbon-binder domain - introduced through controlled multilayer coating and fast-drying processes - affect impedance spectra characteristics. We validate our observations against transmission line models that incorporate non-uniform distributions of capacitance and ionic resistance. Finally, we analyze the effects of various compression levels on electrode properties. Together, these experiments provide a unified framework for linking electrode processing to functional performance.
