Abstract

The kidneys adapt to changes in Na + intake by regulating tubular Na + transport, and we investigated whether the RNA content of urinary EVs (uEV) reflects the physiological responses to dietary Na + intake in humans. Dietary Na + intake altered both transcript abundance and kidney-derived uEV levels, which correlated with renin, aldosterone, and blood pressure levels. Thus, uEV transcriptomics provide a noninvasive window for studying the molecular control of kidney Na + handling in humans.
