A Novel Multicriteria Decision‐Making Approach for WEDM Parameter Selection Using Fuzzy AHP–ARAS
Abstract
Nickel‐based superalloys, particularly Inconel 718, are renowned for their exceptional mechanical properties, which present significant challenges during machining. These alloys possess remarkable fatigue strength, outstanding resistance to corrosion and creep, high work hardening capacity, and impressive strength. Due to these characteristics, determining optimal machining parameters becomes a complex task for contemporary manufacturing sectors. In response, this experimental investigation seeks to optimize wire electrical discharge machining parameters with the objective of minimizing machining costs and human intervention. The study integrates a Trapezoidal Interval Type 2 Fuzzy Set with the analytical hierarchy process and additive ratio assessment methods to facilitate the effective selection of WEDM parameters for Inconel 718. A comparative evaluation with other decision‐making methods underscores the efficacy of the applied method. The results indicate that the MCDM framework offers a robust tool for the formulation, evaluation, and ranking of machining parameters, ensuring a comprehensive solution for concurrently selecting multiple machining criteria.
