Abstract

The Michael addition is a cornerstone transformation in organic synthesis, enabling efficient C–C and C–heteroatom bond formation. Traditionally, α,β‐unsaturated carbonyl compounds such as enones and esters have dominated as Michael acceptors, whereas α,β‐unsaturated amides remain underutilized due to their strong resonance stabilization and low electrophilicity. Recent advances in catalysis have begun to address these challenges, with organocatalysis emerging as a sustainable and versatile strategy alongside transition metal catalysis. Organocatalysis not only provides unique reactivity and selectivity but also offers an environmentally benign alternative to metal catalysis and biocatalysis. Furthermore, the development of cooperative catalytic platforms that integrate organocatalysts with metals or enzymes has expanded the scope of Michael reactions, including those involving amides. This review highlights these emerging methodologies, compares their mechanistic features, and discusses the remaining limitations and future opportunities in unlocking the full potential of amide‐based Michael chemistry.
