Abstract

Protestant Church law stands at the intersection of theology and jurisprudence and must confront the challenges of digitalization. While it provides a normative structure for church action, digital transformation requires adjustments, particularly in data protection and copyright law. The EKD’s (Protestant Church in Germany) specialized information system for ecclesiastical law (FIS-EKD) serves as a digital platform that makes the unity of an otherwise decentralized legal system visible. It not only provides access to legal norms but also illustrates ecclesiastical law of the Protestant Church as a systematic whole. In this way, the ecclesiastical legal system is not merely administered in the digital space but also reorganized and made accessible.
