Review 1: "Human Genetic Variation Associates with Infection by Derived Ugandan M. tuberculosis Lineage"
Abstract
The authors used L4-Uganda M. tuberculosis (Mtb) sub-lineage, which emerged recently and is specific to Uganda and its immediate environs to address human host-pathogen interactions by focusing on the outcome of infection and human genetic variants as independent variables.Standard and robust statistical approaches were used to generate the evidence supporting the claims made in the manuscript. The authors demonstrate that the co-evolution of human host and Mtb might have selected specific genes found to be differentially expressed in lung and immune cells, that mediate Mtb infection establishment and progression to disease via immune regulation or other related mechanisms. That these host genetic effects may be population
