Abstract

Abstract My 2016 paper on the formulae γούνατ᾽ ἔλυσε ( ν ) and λῦσε δὲ γυῖα touched briefly on the age-old question of whether the Greek Hypsenor was alive or dead when carried off the field of battle at Iliad 13.423. It reached no clear-cut solution, and left the matter largely to the interpretation of the individual reader or scholar. This article re-visits the problem, offering new viewpoints and data, and proposes a definite, reasoned interpretation of the verse.
