Abstract

Integrated social policy as an engine of sustainable development: Lessons from global practice: ICSW advocacy for integrated social policies for inclusive and sustainable development at the second world social summitIntegrated social policy featured prominently in the engagement of the International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW) at the Second World Summit for Social Development, held on 4-6 November 2025 in Doha, Qatar. The ICSW-sponsored Solutions Session held on 5th November reflected months of sustained analytical preparation and strategic dialogue and formed a central pillar of the organization's advocacy at the Summit. This preparatory phase, extending over more than 2 months, represented a substantial investment of time and expertise, justified by both the political significance of the Summit and the opportunity it provided for ICSW to articulate its policy vision before a global audience. The background work was undertaken in close collaboration with long-standing partners from the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), with the International Consortium for Social Development (ICSD) joining the panel. This collaboration ensured that the session was grounded in diverse disciplinary perspectives and aligned with the broader social work and social development community.Key elements of this preparatory process were synthesized in a concept note circulated in advance and made publicly available through the ICSW website. Key themes from the panel discussionModerated discussions during the Solutions Session revolved around three interrelated themes:

Fields of Study & Subjects

Social Sciences and Policies Social Policy and Reform Studies Economic and Social Development
