Abstract

According to the last report released from the European Courts of Editors on June 2023, European countries presented to have low transition rate towards circular economy despite the proposed EU action plan (the first circular economy action plan was released in 2015) and the effort spent from several stakeholders (e.g. policy makers, academia, research institutes, industrial sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) etc.). Although the second action plan was issued in 2020 in response to European Green Deal with new ambitious targets of doubling the EU’s share of material recycled and to provide feedback onto the economy by 2030, there are zero to limited evidence that circularity, in the general sense of the terminology, consequently the pace of progress remains slow and any proposed targets looks extremely challenges.
