Abstract

BACKGROUND: The present study aims to investigate the prevalence and related factors of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), population at risk for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), in urban, stock-raising and agricultural dwellers from Xinjiang, Northwest China. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, participants aged ≥ 18 years were recruited in Emin, China in 2019. Participants underwent questionnaire assessments, including the No-SAS questionnaire (which incorporates neck circumference, obesity, snoring, age, and sex), and details in medical history and lifestyle. RESULTS: Data for 32,916 participants were analyzed with an average age of (47.3 ± 14.2) years. The overall prevalence of SDB was 24.6%, and was 29.1%, 18.6% and 22.9%, respectively in participants from urban, stock-raising and agricultural regions were (P < 0.001), consistent in different gender and in the young. In logistic regression analysis, common associated factors for SDB presence were cigarette and alcohol consumption, abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, and presence of hypertension, coronary heart diseases and of stroke for total and region-specific participants. CONCLUSIONS: SDB is very common in urban, stock-raising and agricultural local population, who share most of the cardio-metabolic associated factors for SDB.
