Abstract

Abstract Blockchain technology (BCT) offers significant potential to advance the circular economy (CE) in the agri-food supply chain by enhancing transparency, traceability, and trust. However, a critical research gap persists regarding its practical adoption, as existing technology adoption studies primarily focus on individual perceptions while largely neglecting the crucial role of organizational dynamic capabilities. To address this gap, this study proposes a hybrid framework integrating the organizational-level dynamic capabilities view (DCV) and the individual-level technology acceptance model (TAM). The model explicitly examines how organizational dynamic capabilities (sensing, seizing, and reconfiguring) interact with individual technological perceptions (perceived usefulness and ease of use) to influence BCT adoption intention within the circular agri-food supply chain. The proposed hybrid model was tested using PLS-SEM on survey data from 276 purposively sampled Chinese agri-food organizations. The results indicate that most of the proposed hypotheses are supported, with the exceptions of the effects of market-sensing capability on perceived ease of use and organizational change on perceived usefulness. This study contributes a novel DCV-TAM framework and provides actionable insights for managers and policymakers in China’s agri-food sector seeking to leverage BCT for a circularity transition.
