Integrated multiscale, multiproxy Analysis of Hydrothermal vents – occurrence, geometry, structuring and lithological composition on BMC-33 Block, Campos Basin
Abstract
Hydrothermal vents are structures found in the vicinity of volcanically active regions and can significantly influence the assessment of oil reserves in a basin. The discovery of large oil accumulations in the pre-salt layers of the Campos Basin has rekindled interest in the exploration of these reservoirs. To deepen the understanding of hydrothermal vents, a systematic study was carried out integrating 3D seismic data, potential methods, stratigraphy, petrography and petrophysics. In this study, hydrothermal vents were characterized in seismic, well logs and thin sections. In addition, the possible percolation pathways of hydrothermal fluids, which are primary and secondary faults, were determined. Thus, this work provided a better mapping of the hydrothermal vents, verifying not only their occurrence, but also their composition and relationship with the basin structure. It is evident that magmatism is punctate, discrete, pervasive and well distributed throughout the presalt, which is the main source of hydrocarbons in the Campos Basin and also includes important reservoirs.
