Organ Preservation in Female Radical Cystectomy: Balancing Oncologic Safety and Quality of Life
Abstract
Women with muscle-invasive bladder cancer face worse oncologic outcomes and endure profound declines in sexual health and quality of life after surgery. Data have accumulated to support the safety and efficacy of pelvic organ preservation in appropriately selected patients; however, in daily practice, these strategies are inconsistently implemented and often omitted from counseling discussions and operative planning, underscoring an urgent need to reframe the cystectomy conversation around organ preservation.
