Abstract

The study of the flow of blood is a challenge, because of the special nature of blood composition. It has occupied the minds of some of the finest mathematicians and engineers for several decades. This chapter will present some of the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, including viscosity, conservation laws, and specific flow patterns of relevance to human blood. Some of the special properties of blood viscosity and its measurement will be discussed.
