Abstract

The structure and function of a single-layer perceptron are described. The steps of training a perceptron and using a trained perceptron are explained. Similarly, the operation of a multilayer perceptron (MLP) is examined. The architecture and working of a radial basis function (RBF) network are discussed. A comparative study is made between perceptron, MLP , and RBF network. Perceptrons are the simplest, single-layer networks used for binary classification, as building blocks in more complex networks. MLP s are feedforward networks with multiple layers that are capable of learning complex, nonlinear relationships. They excel in tasks like image recognition, natural language processing, and speech recognition. RBF networks are a type of neural network that uses RBFs as activation functions. They are known for their speed and suitability for function approximation.
