Abstract

Animal and plant biotechnology are the significant fields of expansion that possess the potential to tackle with worldwide issues related to environmental sustainability, health and food security. Also, sustainable agriculture is the most trending field that is abetted by the advances in plant biotechnology, such as genome editing, which makes it possible to create crops with better nutritional profiles, increased resistance to environmental challenges and less need of chemical inputs. The tools involved in plant biotechnology provide innumerable opportunities to increase crop yields and mitigate environmental changes, safeguarding sustenance for the rising population. In animal biotechnology, tools like CRISPR/Cas systems enable the development of novel ideas and organisms resistant to disease, and enhanced animal care. Incorporation of biotechnology promotes interdisciplinary solutions that reconcile environmental protection and resilience over the growing demands of global population. There is a need of contemporary research and ethical considerations to maximise benefits while minimising any ecological and societal impacts. The chapter explains the significance of a balanced approach through successful incorporation of biotechnology integrating science and technology-based advancements in the area of ethics, social and environment.
