Abstract

Handling animals requires a certain scale. One type of animal handling is animal farming where different animals are grown for many purposes such as to help in farm duties or to produce certain products, and finally, most of them are consumed as food. Most of the animals’ parts can be either consumed by humans or converted into other kinds of products. For that, the animal farming business and industry are so active, particularly after partially corrupting the original farming style, the farm family. This chapter focuses on food as an essential part of animal welfare and other practices that could affect, directly or indirectly, the animals’ health, welfare, farming conditions, safety, etc. While most of the farming animals are consumed by humans as food, human is the one who cares for animals, so the interrelationship is considered as one unit. This chapter highlights a considerable number of factors (both positive and negative factors) affecting animal welfare, suggests solutions, introduces alternatives, and discusses the origin of some of the described privileges or problems in the text. Together, experts from various fields should install better solutions to the existing problems and enhance the farming and production conditions to enable the best conditions for the animals and guarantee animals’ welfare.
