Precision Forecasting for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Planning in Sustainable Urban Mobility
Abstract
Fossil fuel depletion, stringent environmental regulations, and developments in electric motor and storage technology anticipate the widespread adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs). Rapid and smooth acceleration, pollution-free operation, and affordable running and maintenance expenses make EVs a promising vehicle type for the near future. The integration of Charging Stations (CSs) in current distribution systems is boosted by the constraints posed by the expanding EV market [ 1 ]. The integration of EVs modifies distribution flows since they place a large load on the distribution system. If charging stations are not distributed to take into account these crucial factors that affect system operation, this could have a detrimental effect on the distribution system’s efficiency, node voltage and load profiles, dependability, protection, and security [ 1 , 2 ]. Many optimization strategies have been successfully used to solve the allocation of CSs while addressing a variety of objectives, as collected in the literature [ 3 ]. This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive overview of ongoing research directions and a concise evaluation of the literature about FCS allocation in primary distribution systems [ 4 ]. It also discusses the effects and problems associated with EV integration that may arise frequently when a system is operating and suggests some potential future paths for this field of study.
