Abstract

As the global energy landscape undergoes a transformational shift toward sustainability and climate mitigation, Saudi Arabia, a key member of the G20, faces a turning point in its energy policy. The country, traditionally dependent on fossil fuels, is making substantial progress in diversifying its energy mix. The transition to renewable energy is not only in line with global sustainability objectives but also presents opportunities for Saudi Arabia to become a regional and global leader in clean energy production and exports. Furthermore, it strengthens energy security by reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports. However, Saudi Arabia faces challenges such as grid integration, technology transfer, and the need for a skilled workforce. The text suggests a roadmap for sustainable development that includes a phased approach, with a focus on capacity building, regulatory reform, and international cooperation. Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy efforts have substantial implications for the G20’s broader energy discussions and global energy security. By identifying and taking advantage of key trends, Saudi Arabia can pave the way for a more sustainable and secure energy future both domestically and on the international stage.
