Abstract

The transition towards sustainable energy systems has become a crucial aspect of national policy supplies and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The purpose of this chapter is to conduct a systematic review and future outlook of the key trends and policies in the UK for achieving sustainable energy security. The research explores the measures taken by the UK government to address the challenges of energy security, including the promotion of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency measures, and investment in new infrastructure. The chapter also identifies the main obstacles to achieving sustainable energy security in the UK, such as the lack of political will and financial support for renewable energy, as well as issues related to the integration of renewable energy into the national grid. To provide a global perspective on the topic, the review also includes a future outlook with India, a country facing similar challenges in terms of energy security. The chapter highlights the need for a coordinated effort between governments, industry, and civil society to promote sustainable energy solutions. The findings suggest that while the UK has made significant progress in promoting sustainable energy, more needs to be done to meet the ambitious targets set for the future. Collaboration with other countries, such as India, could be an important way to share best practices and resources and to work towards a more sustainable energy future for all. Overall, this research provides useful understandings into major trends and policies for achieving sustainable energy security in the UK and offers a roadmap for future action that could benefit not only the UK but also other countries facing similar challenges.
