Abstract

Amidst India’s G20 presidency, the energy transition has become a mandate for India in light of eco-centrism and inculcation of corporate environmental stewardship. Different field science and social science work together to promote carbon neutrality by developing decarbonization methods that support sustainable energy security. This is further pushed by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as prescribed in the G20 mission, which works in tandem by the sustainable energy security interventions of the government of India. This conceptual study draws on eco-centric approaches to energy transition and highlights their importance in achieving sustainable energy security. The exploratory research design attempts to qualitatively unfurl these approaches and justify their relevance against the backdrop of G20. A mixed qualitative approach using grounded theory and conceptual framework analysis is used to draw inferences that are inductive in character. The study outlines key decarbonization techniques and discipline-focused carbon neutrality themes. These techniques can guide policymakers, sustainability advocates, government and industry leaders working toward the energy transition and sustainable development.
