Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Nanomaterials for Batteries
Abstract
The growing need for sustainable, high-performance energy storage is driving advancements in battery materials. Traditional batteries like lithium-ion and lead-acid offer crucial functionality but face limitations in energy density, lifespan, safety, and environmental impact. Organic–inorganic hybrid nanomaterials (HNs) are emerging as a promising alternative by combining the stability and electrochemical advantages of inorganic components with the flexibility and modifiability of organic compounds at the nanoscale. This synergy enables notable improvements in energy density, durability, and efficiency. This chapter explores the design, synthesis, and evaluation of these hybrid materials for battery applications, focusing on techniques to integrate organic and inorganic components. The impact of these materials in various battery types, such as lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and zinc-ion batteries is discussed. The mechanism of energy storage in organic–inorganic hybrids is also reviewed. This chapter provides a thorough overview of the growing role of organic–inorganic HNs, highlighting their potential to revolutionize future energy storage solutions through enhanced performance, longevity, and sustainability.
