Abstract

The construction sector is one of the largest contributors to global environmental issues, and there is a significant need for sustainable options to reduce its ecological footprint. This chapter discusses the application of nanocomposite materials in achieving sustainable construction with a focus on cement and bricks primarily. Nanocomposites, having extraordinary mechanical features together with unyieldingness and versatility, offer game-changing opportunities for minimizing consumption of resources and prolonging service life in buildings. The current chapter reviews some uses of nanocomposites in different aspects such as structural elements, coatings, and insulation materials within the building industry. The examination shows the use of nanocomposite-incorporated construction techniques in attaining sustainability goals by examining their ecological impacts, life cycle performance, and economic feasibility. Results show that apart from enhancing building energy efficiency as well as resilience via more recyclability and reduced wastage, the employment of nanocomposites is in line with recycling logic that fits into the circular economy framework, hence reducing waste quantities. The study asserts that nanocomposite materials are a significant breakthrough toward a sustainable future of the construction sector, thus resulting in greener, resilient, and more profitable built environments.
