The Toxicological Impacts of Global Warming and Climate Change
Abstract
Climatic changes is modifying several environmental conditions in such a way that it predisposes human existence to hazardous contaminants. Rise in atmospheric temperatures, alteration in precipitation and rising sea-level contribute to the dissemination, concentration, and toxicity of heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), air pollutants, and biotoxins. These alterations contribute to the release of redox-sensitive metals (e.g. arsenic and manganese), which further lead to volatilization of POP, intensification of ozone formation, thereby stimulating higher production of biotoxins such as BMAA. These processes leads to the elevation of respiratory illnesses, neurological defect, reproductive challenges, and endocrine disorders in man. These whole episode also threatens the ecosystems and the availability of for the populace. There is a major climate modification that influences the contamination and toxicological outcomes in the environment and there is need for continuous regular monitoring and better public health awareness in a world that is warming up.
