Abstract

This chapter covers the definitions of gameplay experience in terms of gameflow, fun, and immersion, examining usability and accessibility as crucial layers. It provides the reader with a review of the psychological (player experience needs satisfaction, player personality and playstyles, player emotions and cognition), socio-demographic (player sex, gender, age, household composition), and economic (player income, game price and pricing, risk) factors influencing player behaviour and consumer decisions. The broader term of player experience is also explored through the lens of player’s consumer decision-making process to contextualize gameplay experience.
