Abstract

Image steganography is a pivotal domain in information security, aiming to conceal secret data within digital images. This chapter reviews the foundational and contemporary image steganography techniques, classifying them into spatial- and transform-domain methods. It evaluates their strengths and limitations based on metrics such as imperceptibility, robustness, and payload capacity. The proposed chapter also focuses on noticeable applications in various fields like information security, cybersecurity, watermarking, and cryptography, etc. However, issues such as robustness against steganalysis attacks, real-time performance, and flexibility for high-resolution multimedia are inspected. Emerging trends involving deep learning and reversible data hiding are also explored. The review concludes by discussing open challenges and potential directions for future research.
