Abstract

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a non-remitting disabling condition with profound effect on balance and gait. People with Parkinson’s disease (PWP) have high rate of falls compared to peer group of healthy persons. PWP has two times more risk of falling and sustaining fracture as compared to healthy controls. 1 The prevalence of fall rate in PWP is between 21–87%. 1 , 2 Even PWP who never had a fall, had a 21% risk of fall in three month follow up period. 2 Quality of life in PWP is drastically compromised by gait and balance disorders. Almost all scales on quality of life for PD have included mobility component as an essential domain. 3
