Abstract

Healthcare scenario in India is unique and completely different from the healthcare systems of other parts of the world, and more so from the developed countries. There are issues with the medicine and the health delivery system of India, which are difficult to explain to health professionals of developed countries. There is strong availability of extremely qualified and competent physicians and state of the art infrastructure in the metropolitan cities and large towns. However, there is a striking contrast in the health delivery within the same metropolis, between different cities, between cities and towns, and between towns and villages. There is no uniform code of management, and there are no standardized treatment guidelines for most disorders. Even if guidelines do exist, they do not percolate to the level of general physician, and if they do, they are not strictly followed. This is the norm for most diseases, including Parkinson’s disease (PD).
