Abstract
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is second most common degenerative disorder globally. The increase in life expectancy in developing economies all over the world will lead to further increase in the prevalence of this disorder. India being the second most populous country in the world will have one of the highest numbers of PD population. The value of the awareness about the disease cannot be undermined because of several factors that contribute to the final outcome of the disease. The most important among them is the early diagnosis and timely medical treatment leading to better outcomes. This, however, varies in different regions of the world depending on the literacy rates, the activity of the awareness and education programs in the society as well as the local celebrities taking up the cause for mass education.
