Abstract

Although the last seven decades have seen incredible advancements in drug delivery technologies, these icebergs end in terms of technologies not yet identified or used in an approved formulation. An increasing number of people need long-term care due to a variety of illnesses as life expectancy increases. Innovative drug delivery technologies are necessary to overcome well-known obstacles and address unmet needs in the present and future. These obstacles include making poorly soluble medications more soluble in water, overcoming biological barriers, and developing longer-acting depot formulations that are more effective. To address the additional challenges, drug delivery technologies, modified as therapy options, have expanded beyond tiny molecules to include nucleic acids, peptides, proteins, and antibodies. A summary of a few of the medication delivery techniques used today, encompassing liposomes, test-masking formulations, oral disintegrating dose forms, oral controlled release, targeted medication delivery, and transdermal drug delivery, is provided through this chapter.
