Abstract

This chapter explores the intersection of diversity in women’s entrepreneurship and technological advancement toward sustainability in South Africa, focusing on Kenya (a North African country). The study investigates how women entrepreneurs leverage their diverse backgrounds—encompassing cultural, socioeconomic, and educational factors—to drive innovation, enhance market access, and promote sustainable business practices. The research uses qualitative and quantitative methodologies to analyze the impact of technological tools such as mobile banking, e-commerce platforms, and digital marketing on the operational efficiency and growth of women-owned enterprises. Findings reveal that technological advancements have significantly empowered women entrepreneurs, enabling them to overcome traditional barriers and integrate sustainable practices into various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, and energy. Further, the chapter highlights the unique contributions of women entrepreneurs to environmental sustainability and economic resilience, emphasizing the role of diversity in fostering creativity and innovation in business models. However, challenges such as limited access to resources, training, and supportive policies persist, hindering the full realization of women’s entrepreneurial potential. The research underscores the need for collaborative efforts among governments, financial institutions, and civil society to create an enabling environment supporting women entrepreneurs in their pursuit of sustainability. By championing diversity and innovation, the study concludes that women entrepreneurs can significantly contribute to achieving sustainable development goals, ultimately shaping a more inclusive and equitable economic landscape in South Africa and Kenya.
