Abstract

Women entrepreneurship has emerged as a significant contributor to economic development globally, yet in Maharashtra, India’s economic powerhouse, women’s participation in entrepreneurial activities remains relatively low. This research paper aims to investigate the multifaceted factors influencing women’s entrepreneurship in Maharashtra, shedding light on the sociocultural, economic, and institutional dimensions shaping women’s entrepreneurial endeavors in the region. Drawing on a mixed-methods approach, this study employs both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to gather comprehensive data. Through interviews, surveys, and statistical analysis, it explores the challenges and opportunities encountered by women entrepreneurs in Maharashtra. The findings highlight several key factors impacting women entrepreneurship in the region. Sociocultural factors such as traditional gender roles, societal expectations, and family responsibilities significantly influence women’s decision-making regarding entrepreneurship. Economic factors such as access to finance, market opportunities, and support infrastructure also play a crucial role in shaping the entrepreneurial landscape for women in Maharashtra. Furthermore, institutional factors such as government policies, regulatory frameworks, and support programs influence the ease of entry and sustainability of women-led businesses. The interaction between these various factors forms a complex ecosystem that either facilitates or constrains women’s entrepreneurial aspirations in Maharashtra. Understanding these factors is essential for policymakers, business leaders, and other stakeholders to design targeted interventions and support mechanisms that empower women entrepreneurs in Maharashtra. By addressing barriers related to access to finance, skill development, mentorship, and networking opportunities, the ecosystem can be made more conducive for women to thrive as entrepreneurs.
