Abstract

Chapter 16 covers operation, which should be the longest period in the project life cycle. Safety studies required and regularly repeated during the plant’s operational life are discussed followed by a description of a standard management structure and critical operational procedures with specific descriptions of the permit to work system, critical trip bypass procedure, isolation practices and MOC. The section concludes with a short section of “What Can Go Wrong?”. Chapter 16 is supplemented by Part D of the book ( Chapters 18 to 22 ) which describes various aspects of operation in more detail.
